ET’s Denny Directo speaks with ‘Generation’ star Justice Smith about starring in the new HBO Max series as the unapologetically queer high school teenager Chester. Smith compares his own high school experiences to the ones portrayed in the show, as well as how the bold character has made an impact on his own life and fashion sense. When asked about his own ‘coming out’ experience, Smith opens up about instead letting others ‘come in’ to his LGBTQ+ identity and his decision to post about it during last year’s Black Lives Matter protests. Additionally, Smith reveals that ‘A Star Is Born’ helped inspire him to share his music with the world and teases if he would return for a ‘Pokémon Detective Pikachu’ sequel. The first eight episodes of ‘Generation’ are now streaming on HBO Max, with an additional eight episodes comprising the second half of the season scheduled to debut later this year.
