Look what Taylor Swift made them do… Taylor’s banner was actually covered up by the L.A. Kings hockey team after fans complain it’s a jinx. Come on now sports people…
Hey everyone, Happy Monday, it’s Sussan Mourad here with Clevver News and apparently the LA Kings… or at least their fans.. have a problem with our girl Taylor Swift.LA hockey fans have complained that her banner which says “Taylor Swift most sold out performances” is jinxing their team.I guess this is just another one of those we just don’t get some sports fans stories.I’m honestly not sure how a banner takes away from anyone’s enjoyment of watching a hockey game and I’m also just intrigued that a banner would bother people to the point where they’d make this big of an issue of it, but these are die hard sports fans we are talking about. The banner was a massive accomplishment for Taylor and it rightfully hangs on the wall of the Staples Center along with other accomplishments that have taken place in that space like Lakers and Sparks championship banners.
She was presented with the banner at one of her shows on her 1989 tour and got a special cameo by Lakers legend Kobe Bryant who presented her with the honor. She’d sold out STAPLES for 16 straight shows, and received it as a gift.
So obviously this was a very special moment and the banner wasn’t bothering anyone. It’s up in the corner of the Staples Center with a bunch of other banners and jerseys, I’ve seen it and just thought it was nice. But apparently, according to some Kings fans, Taylor’s banner was jinxing their team. Ummm hello… like, how??It seems like there’s just something about Taylor that just seems to bring out the petty in people, whether it’s Kanye West or fans of sports team like the Kings. And surprisingly enough, Taylor has actually even supported the Kings – here she is with Demi Lovato rocking a Kings Jersey and hugging the mascot.
But the Los Angeles Kings announced they will cover up a banner honoring Taylor during home games at the Staples Center. And in case you aren’t a sports fan, don’t worry we did the research behind all this for you. And don’t worry, we won’t be getting into any nitty gritty details about hockey analytics, just a timeline. The banner celebrating Taylor was put up in 2015. And the Kings won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014 and advanced to the conference finals in 2013.So fans think it’s not a coincidence that the team hasn’t won a playoff series since the banner went up. If my eyes could roll back into my head they would right now.
And last season, the Kings had the worst record in the Western Conference and the second-worst in the league.Sorry, not sorry Kings. But now they actually think covering a banner will change that. The VP of marketing for the team said quote, “The connection to our fans is our highest priority and through our engagement, they have made it clear that the banner shouldn’t be part of their Kings game experience. We didn’t see an issue in covering it for our games and in fact see it as an opportunity to show our fans that we hear them.”The Kings covered the banner before their home opener this weekend against the Nashville Predators and won 7-4. Again… coincidence.
Because they ended up losing their second home game to the Vegas Golden Knights last night, so clearly Taylor has nothing to do with their winning or losing streak. But fans don’t think so.
Seriously? Not gonna lie that tweet makes my blood boil. And I’m not alone, the Swifties obviously came in HOT in the comments section. And that they do.The banner doesn’t seem to be impacting the other teams or concerts that play there.According to TMZ the Lakers have no plans to cover the Taylor banner, but apparently the Clippers already cover up her banner for their home games… to each their own I guess. All I know is that the Kings are creating some unnecessary bad blood, for lack of a better analogy.
