And naturally, everybody totally freaked out. So it all started on Saturday when Apple Music published the lyrics to Ariana Grande’s brand new hit, ‘Thank U, Next.’ Yes it is a hit, and yes I am obsessed. But that’s really not the point here. So after making mentions of all her exes in the song, Ariana then references meeting someone new. And according to Apple Music, QUOTE “her name is Aubrey.”
Aaaaaand cue the internet implosion.
One twitter user asked QUOTE “yall hear ariana say Aubrey or was that just me?”
Another needed a moment writing quote “ARIANA MENTIONED SOMEONE NAMED AUBREY?? hOLD On “
And of course, there were many a Drake joke… cuz as we all know Drizzy’s real name is Aubrey Graham, so there was really no escaping that one.
But the real thought was that maybe, just maybe, Ari was coming out as bisexual by simultaneously confessing to a secret lover named Aubrey. And it sounds like a lot, but hey, it could happen?
Ariana quickly shut down all the Aubrey talk, tweeting QUOTE “I said Ari fam”
She later thanked Spotify for getting her lyrics right… so hopefully someone didn’t get in to too much trouble over at Apple.
The rest of the internet all took a communal deep breath because we could all stop stressing out about this mystery person is… because they don’t exist. Plus, the message here really is all about self-love and loving yourself first and foremost, which is definitely such a great lesson for all of us.
But this user summed up all the drama quite perfectly, writing QUOTE “ok so apple music lyrics listed it as “aubrey” not “ari” and i thought this was ur coming out song so likeeeeeE … ily tho still a gay icon. “
